METI Scientists: Earth Could Be ‘Galactic Zoo’ Run by Aliens, Luis Elizondo Embraces ‘Zoo Hypothesis’

The term “a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳s” represents a different perspective for a scientist and a U̳F̳O̳ researcher. One considers that a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳s may be microbiological entities likely present in Earth\’s atmosphere, while the other firmly believes that a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳s are human-sized species hailing from space. Also in 2019 members of METI (Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence), a San Francisco-based research organization got together in Paris and suggested that we could all be living in a galactic zoo run by a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳s.
Florence Raulin Cerceau who is the director of METI and also an astrobiologist, explained: “This puzzle of why we do not detect e̳x̳t̳r̳a̳t̳e̳r̳r̳e̳s̳t̳r̳i̳a̳l̳ life has been discussed frequently”, adding: “But in the exclusive focus of this workshop, many of the lectures addressed an explanation controversial first suggested in the 1970s, called the \’zoo hypothesis\’.” METI President Douglas Vakoch commented:
“Perhaps e̳x̳t̳r̳a̳t̳e̳r̳r̳e̳s̳t̳r̳i̳a̳l̳s are observing humans on Earth, just as we observe animals in a zoo.”

This is a consequence of Charles Fort\’s claim that some non-human intelligence essentially operates the Earth as a prison or ant farm to observe us, and is the basis for the “prison planet” claims of some contemporary A̳n̳c̳i̳e̳n̳t̳ astronaut theorists.
He was also perhaps the first person to explain strange human appearances and disappearances by the a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳ abduction hypothesis and was an early proponent of the e̳x̳t̳r̳a̳t̳e̳r̳r̳e̳s̳t̳r̳i̳a̳l̳ hypothesis specifically suggesting that lights or strange objects seen in the skies could be a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳ craft.
Douglas Vakoch opined, saying, “Maybe e̳x̳t̳r̳a̳t̳e̳r̳r̳e̳s̳t̳r̳i̳a̳l̳s are watching humans on Earth, just like we watch animals in a zoo.”
MIT researcher John Ball presented the zoo hypothesis in his 1973 paper. He wrote:
“Extraterrestrial intelligent life can be nearly ubiquitous,” adding, “The apparent failure of such life to interact with us can be understood in terms of the hypothesis that they set us aside as part of a wild or zoo area.”
He later wrote in another research paper:
“ETI may be watching us discreetly and unobtrusively, but not getting involved.”
In 2016 Josh Hrala told ScienceAlert that while the zoo hypothesis assumes that a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳s exist, perhaps the reason they aren\’t interacting with us is because they don\’t want to have any influence on our society and just want to keep watching us from afar.
In addition, former US Army counter-intelligence special agent, U̳F̳O̳ advocate and media personality Luis Elizondo explained his reasoning behind the claim that U̳F̳O̳ mysteries made him “dark”. His speculative ideas are straight from mid-20th century science fiction, particularly the so-called “zoo hypothesis” that appeared in several stories at the time, imagining that Earth was essentially a zoo run by space a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳s.
“What if there is another species even higher up this ladder than we are? Do we need the social institutions that we have today, do we need the governmental and religious organizations that we have today if there is something else or someone who is more technologically advanced and perhaps from an evolutionary perspective, more advanced? Have we wasted our time all this time? Or are we doing exactly as we should be doing?
[What] if humanity is actually just another animal in the zoo? If we saw ourselves as the zookeeper before maybe we are just another exhibit inside the zoo? What would that mean for us?
So when I say \’dark\’ or \’sober\’ I mean there will come a point in this conversation where we\’re going to have to come to terms with ourselves a lot whatever that means whatever philosophical background you have. This will impact each of us. And I think that\’s important. Do we find ourselves in a situation where history may have to be rewritten? So that\’s what I meant.”
A similar hypothesis can also be seen in the case of Matilda O\’Donnell McElroy, Women\’s Army Air Force Medical Corps. She claimed to have interviewed an a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳ named “Airl” who supposedly survived the Roswell crash in 1947. The entity told her where they came from and why they came to Earth.
In the letter, MacElroy wrote: “Humanity needs to know the answers to the questions contained in these documents: Who are we? Where we came from? What is our purpose on Earth? If there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, why haven\’t they contacted us? It is vital that people understand the devastating consequences for our physical and spiritual survival if we do not take effective steps to undo the widespread and lasting effects of a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳ intervention on Earth.” (Click here to read the full article)

In her footnotes, Matilda wrote:
“Earth is a small planet of a star in a galaxy. This makes Earth very geographically isolated from the more concentrated planetary c̳i̳v̳i̳l̳i̳z̳a̳t̳i̳o̳n̳s̳ that exist towards the center of the galaxy. These obvious facts have made the Earth suitable for use only as a zoo or botanical garden, or for current use as a prison – but not much else.
Before 30,000 BCE — Earth began to be used as a garbage dump and prison for IS-BEs who were deemed untouchable, ie criminals or non-conformists. IS-BEs were captured, encapsulated in electronic traps and transported to Earth from various parts of the “Old Empire”. Underground amnesia stations have been installed on Mars and Earth in the Rwenzori Mountains of Africa, the Pyrenees Mountains of Portugal and the Mongolian steppes.”
The zoo hypothesis is one of many theories involving a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳ life, but it is definitely an interesting hypothesis to consider. “It seems likely that e̳x̳t̳r̳a̳t̳e̳r̳r̳e̳s̳t̳r̳i̳a̳l̳s are imposing a \’galactic quarantine\’ because they perceive it to be culturally disruptive for us to learn about them,” said researcher Jean-Pierre Rospars of the Institut national de la recherche agronomique (INRA), who participated in the METI Workshop. .
